A GIF is a handful of photos looped together into a short animation. Most photo booth software treats it as its own separate experience: guests pick it, then pose for it. We can do that too, and we also do something most platforms don't. We can turn any set of template photos into an animated photo automatically with no extra step for your guests. How are GIFs different from boomerangs or slow motion videos?
While boomerangs loop a very short action (1-2 seconds) forward and backward, GIFs capture a longer sequence that plays forward in a loop. They're more like mini-videos. You can capture multiple poses, a sequence of movements, or a little story. Slow motion emphasizes one dramatic moment, while GIFs are about capturing a flow of action or expression changes. GIFs also have that distinctive look and feel that people recognize instantly.
How long should a GIF be to work best?
Most event GIFs are 3-5 seconds long - short enough to keep file sizes manageable and loops engaging, and long enough to capture a sequence of action or multiple expressions. You can absolutely adjust this! Quick 2-second GIFs are snappy and load super fast. Longer 8-10 second GIFs can tell more of a story but have larger file sizes. Most operators find the 3-5 second sweet spot works perfectly: guests can strike multiple poses, do a quick action sequence, or show off their personality without the GIF becoming too large to share easily.
